Of Mice and men reaction

To me, the book Of Mice And Men was a pretty decent book with a well made storyline. The thing is, I do not think it would make much sense without a little background information as to what the book represents. Without knowing the book was about the American dream, it would have made no sense to me at all. It would have been about a crazy guy that kills people and his friend who doesn’t care about anything he does. I liked how Steinbeck wrote the book and I think it is very well done. What I think Steinbeck is trying to get at is that the American dream isn’t always what it is hyped up to be. I also think that Steinbeck is saying that the road to success is bumpy and there are troubles on the way. I think that most people think it is smooth sailing, but it’s really not. I think that’s what Steinbeck is portraying in the story, and i think he did a very nice job on it. It may sound odd to you, but my favorite part in the book is when Lennie got shot in the head by George. Now, don’t think of me as some lunatic that likes death. I liked it for the story behind it. To me, it’s pointing out that Steinbeck is telling us to get rid of the bad things in our lives. In the book, Lennie was holding back George from getting pretty much anywhere in life. Now that Lennie is gone, George’s like would be much easier without that heavy weight dragging him down. I also like the part in the book when Crooks was left out of the cabin because he was black. It symbolizes how back in the day, blacks were treated very differently than they are today. Blacks back then had little rights and were thought of lower than whites. It shows how to some, the American dream was harder to reach. In the end, I think Steinbeck did a great job on displaying the American dream. I think he is saying that the American dream is possible, you just have to ignore all the haters and people that get in your way. Look forward and have a dream, and one day, you can achieve it, just don’t lose hope.
