Hotel Rwanda Reaction

Hotel Rwanda was a pretty good movie. I liked how it showed the true emotion of what the Rwandan people went through. What they went through was horrible and shows what true evil looks like. The Hutu people were full of hate and they used that hate and took it out on the Tutsi people. The actions that the Hutu took will hopefully never be redone by anyone.

“We will wipe out the cockroaches.” The Hutu people called the Tutsi cockroaches just because they hated them. They wanted to kill all of them and had a ton of hate against them. Because of what the Tutsi did in the past, the Hutu wanted to wipe out their whole body of people.

One point in the movie that I thought was powerful was when they were putting prices on people. The leader said that it would cost 10,000 francs for each, which is the same price for a Cohiba Cuban cigar. What the film is emphasizing is that the Hutu are being compared to a cigar. They are comparing human life to a cigar.

Another time in the movie that stood out to me was when Paul was thanking a man for recording a video of people getting killed in the streets. After they talked, it was mentioned that even if it aired, people will see, say something like, “Oh that’s horrible”, and then go on with their lives. This was a very “smack in your face” moment because when you think about, we do the same. We sit at home, watching the news and think the same thing. But on the other hand, there isn’t much we can do to help. Not many of us can get up and go somewhere to help first hand. There are many other things we can do like pray for healing  or donate to a charity that helps a certain cause.
